ASG is proud to announce the successful completion of another specialised Search & Rescue (SAR) refresher training programme delivered to Irish Coast Guard personnel from 19th–22nd May 2026 in Galway, Ireland.
This latest off-site programme brought together nine operational Watch Officers for four intensive days of recurrent training focused on maintaining and enhancing the critical decision-making, coordination, and operational skills required in Ireland’s demanding SAR environment.
Building on a long-standing partnership between ASG and the Irish Coast Guard (IRCG), the course forms part of ASG’s ongoing commitment to supporting one of Ireland’s most important frontline emergency response organisations. ASG has now trained and refreshed hundreds of Watch Officers through both initial SATAC programmes and recurrent refresher courses over the past number of years.
Supporting Ireland’s Life-Saving Search & Rescue Capability
The Irish Coast Guard operates at the centre of Ireland’s maritime emergency response network — coordinating highly complex, time-critical incidents around the clock, 365 days per year. ASG’s role is to ensure personnel remain equipped with the operational knowledge, situational awareness, and human performance skills necessary to manage these missions safely and effectively.
The Galway-based refresher programme focused on several key operational areas including:
- Operational Risk Management
- Emergency Response Planning
- Meteorology & Weather Decision-Making
- Navigation & Flight Planning
- Air Law & Communications
- SAR Operating Procedures
- Human Factors & Crew Resource Management (CRM)
- Fatigue Risk Management & Flight Time Limitations
The programme was designed not simply to refresh technical knowledge — but to strengthen operational judgement, resilience under pressure, and inter-agency coordination capability.
Delivering Bespoke Training Where It Matters
Conducting the course in Galway reflects ASG’s flexible and operationally focused approach to training delivery. By bringing specialised recurrent training closer to operational locations, ASG continues to support the practical realities faced by frontline SAR personnel while ensuring minimal disruption to operational readiness.
This off-site delivery model also demonstrates ASG’s growing capability in delivering bespoke aviation and operational training solutions throughout Ireland for government, state, and emergency service organisations.
A Trusted Partnership Built on Operational Excellence
What makes the partnership between ASG and the Irish Coast Guard particularly meaningful is the shared focus on professionalism, operational relevance, and continuous improvement. Course content continues to evolve based on operational experience, lessons identified from real-world missions, and the changing demands placed on modern SAR coordination personnel.
As another successful training programme concludes, ASG remains proud to support the Irish Coast Guard’s mission of delivering world-class Search & Rescue services around the Irish coastline.
We would like to sincerely thank all participants for their professionalism, engagement, and ongoing commitment to protecting lives at sea and along Ireland’s coastline.
